Adding tokens to the Template Content of a Message Template allows ResCenter to automatically insert patron-specific information into a Communication message. This option allows administrators to send dynamic message content that can more effectively adapt to existing patron information.
When a Communication message template is loaded in the Patron module, ResCenter will automatically enter the template’s token data, if it is available for the patron. If the patron does not have a defined value for a token, a blank space will be entered in place of the token. Before the Communication message is emailed or printed, the message text and formatting can be edited, if necessary.
Once a token is added into a message template, it will be displayed in two parts. The first part includes the internal token name, sub-field name (if applicable), and code. The second part includes the actual token name, sub-field name (if applicable), and selected date (if applicable).
Note: All token text is required for the message template to display information properly in a communication message. Token text should not be edited once it has been added to a message template. Instead of editing a token’s text, CBORD strongly recommends deleting the entire token and adding a new one.
