Odyssey Reader Application

ResCenter can be used on a mobile device in conjunction with a card reader and the Odyssey Reader application. The app is available for Apple and Android devices.

A compatible card reader—along with the Odyssey Reader application—can be used with an Apple or Android mobile device to perform a patron look-up for a check-in or check-in.

Customer-owned Apple or Android devices may be used with the Odyssey Reader app. Approved mobile card readers may be obtained from CBORD or purchased separately. Contact your Account Representative for more information.

Requirements

Your institution must use a magnetic stripe card. Contactless cards or barcodes may be supported in a future release.

Android devices must run version 3.3 or higher

Apple devices must run iOS version 6.0 or higher

The ResCenter site must be accessible over either a wireless or cellular network from the device.

Card Reader Options

For Apple, CBORD supports an integrated swipe reader (iMag Pro) that attaches to the device using the dock connector (Lightning or 30-pin). The integrated swipe reader does not require charging, but an iOS device can be charged using a pass-through micro-USB port.

Alternatively, an audio jack reader (UniMag II or UniMag Pro) is supported.

The Linea Pro is also supported for select Apple devices and can be used to read mag stripe cards.

For Android, CBORD supports an audio jack reader (UniMag II) or Bluetooth (BT Mag) reader. The audio jack reader does not require charging. A Bluetooth reader requires charging and has a limited operation period before it needs recharging, typically a few hours under normal use.
