The Proxy feature accommodates patrons who may want to designate a proxy for room selection or check-in/check-out if they are unavailable to do so themselves. A patron can have only one person designated as a proxy at a time.
Note: To enable or disable the types of actions that can be performed by a proxy, configure the Available activity for proxy section on the System Parameters page.
The feature also allows patrons to request and revoke a request for a proxy person and for the proxy person to accept or decline a request to be a proxy.
Patrons can access a link from the Student Web site to designate another patron as their proxy. The selection criteria to identify the proxy person are the same as those used for identifying roommates. It is determined by the RequestedRoommateLookup setting in Odyssey HMS Web (for example, Find by Last, First; Find by ID). Patrons must agree to contract text explaining that they are appointing someone as their proxy in order to request the patron as their proxy. The contract text is customizable.
Patrons who are requested to be a proxy for another patron will have a customizable message displayed on their home page. The message is also a link that will take them to another page to either accept or decline the proxy request.
Email messages can be configured to:
• Notify the patron being requested to be a proxy that the request was made or revoked.
• Notify the proxy requestor that the proxy person accepted or declined the request.
Once patrons have accepted a proxy request, they can select a room, check in, or check out on behalf of the proxy requestor. The online room selection will allow them to indicate whether they are selecting a room for themselves or as proxy for another patron. Staff will be able to specify on check-in or check-out whether the patron is checking in or out for themselves or for another patron.
